5 Things to do in Ipoh

The Ipoh is capital city in the above central reason of Peninsular Malaysia. It is just two hours away from the country’s capital Kuala Lumpur from the car, bus or train, so spend the day in Ipoh is do-able. We have decided to catch the Electric Train Service up for the day, which is recently they have just introduced the new Chinese train sets on the route, which is the part of a long journey to Padang Besar at the northern border with Thailand.

1. Eat

The Ipoh is famous for one of Malaysia's favorite drinks. The beans are roasted in work with margarine and the sugar before being ground. For making the drink, the ground coffee is placed in the cloth bag with the handle and hot water is poured through the bag into the holding pot and the bag is pumped up and down the few times to get the strength before the coffee is decanted into the cups. The condensed milk and ice may be added which depend on your preference. The default risk will be sweet if you do not want the sugar hit ask for "Kurang Manis."

We hope to try the coffee and the famed creme caramel at Restoran Thean Chun at the Northen end of the street, but they were closed for a couple of days. Now we have decided to test out the food on offer at Restoran Tuge Ayam Lou Wong. The Ipoh is famous for its bean sprouts and chicken, and this is seemed to be a new branch of the original restaurant in the New Town, where the most of the other well-known shops are found.

2. Walk and Find Wall Art

If you walk from the Railway station to the City Hall opposite, then you can pass between the City Hall and the State Mosque along with the Jln Dato Sagor to get to the street market. They seem to quite of sprucing up being done in this area as the City Hall is beautiful and clean. The Birch Memorial Clock Tower, built in 1909 in the memory of the British Resident, murdered by the local Malay Chiefs.

3. Talk to the Locals

Along with the Jln Dato Sagor, stop in the chat of the few remaining petition writers in the country. These gentlemen are used to be commonly seen outside the government office, where they fill the forms and write the official letter to their illiterate customers.

The petition writers are used also to write the letter home for the overseas Indian customers, and it is interesting listening to them and writing down what the client is wanted to say.

4. Learn a Little Local History

The Ipoh has some buildings which count as Museums. The Darul Ridzan Museum along with the Jln Istana is on the other side of Ipoh Padang, and you can collect the Ipoh Heritage brochure for the comprehensive list, from the Tourist Information Centre.

5. Find Something Interesting and Unusual

Little India in India was the focal point for the many of Indians who came many years ago to work on the rubber estates and stayed, becoming the Malaysians long ago. It stretches along with the Jln Sultan Yusof and the run up to the Deepavali in October/November is the lively street of stalls and decorated shops.
